Hey I’m Hamish. I graduated from Scotch College in 2014, and have begun an Arts/Law degree at Monash University, studying Literature and Indonesian as I did in high school. Outside of tutoring sport has always been a big focus for me, playing hockey and rugby during the winter and cricket in the summer.
Despite having only started tutoring this year, I have learnt quickly the necessity of adopting an individual approach – that working from the student’s needs and weaknesses is often the best way to ensure confidence. From there encouraging a unique perspective of each text as well as working on sentence and essay structure is the best way to settle nerves and develop understanding before upcoming SACs and exams. Having recently experienced the stresses and difficulties of VCE and English subjects, I know where students often go off on the wrong track and also tend to bog themselves down. Therefore taking a far more personal and efficient approach to each subject and each text than in classrooms would help create an environment where each student can get the best out of themselves.
I hope to hear from you soon!
